Pastor's Message
Communion Sunday - I Corin 11:20
From the outside, communion can be confusing. Various churches do communion different methods. Some have the people come to the sacraments, some have the sacraments brought to the people and some have the people and sacraments come toward each other.
We are NOT saved by receiving the sacraments. We ARE saved by receiving Jesus Christ.
We take communion as an outward example of our commitment to the Lord. Communion is for BELIEVERS! Paul's letter to Corinth is most likely the oldest, or 1st in the new testament.
What is communion? It's a participation into our Lord's death. We are caught up in the work of Christ NOW. We should ask b4 we participate: "What in me needs to die to truly be a follower of Christ?"
We experience the presence of Christ when we participate. Jesus meets us at communion. Where else in the world would you want to be? Communion transforms us. we receive help...daily help. It's not just a "snack". Its an opportunity to receive God's grace.
Pastor shared a story about a NY City mayor from many years ago...how he provided grace to a G-mother who stole a loaf of bread to feed her hungry G-children.
When we come to the communion table, we acknowledge we are broken.
God's grace - Rom 2:4
